Today, we went out to see about a fire. When we arrived, we could tell about 75% of this house was severely damaged. We could see people outside, and set out to talk to the homeowner about what we, at Universal, do. We approached the first lady we saw and quickly learned that she was the homeowner’s daughter. When we talked to her and briefly explained why we were there, she directed us to call her sister, who was in charge of making the decisions for the parents (the homeowners). After calling the sister, while we were on the property, she quickly shut us down and assured us that she dealt with insurance companys all the time and that the insurance company would take good care of her parents. We tried stressing “You need us”, but she was not to be convinced. When we arrived back at the office, I tried thinking of a time when another homeowner told us that their insurance company “would take good care of them,” and didn’t. We arrived at the home of another fire about a year ago and they told us they didn’t need us and that they were in “good hands” by their insurance company. Months later, that same homeowner called us after being repeatedly low balled by their insurance company. After guiding them through an appraisal process and negotiating with their insurance company, we were able to secure a settlement for over 50% more than what the insurance company initially offered. If that same homeowner knew then, what they know now, it would of saved them months of negotiation and they would of had their money sooner. Involve a public adjuster from the very begininning of your loss, I promise it will benefit you in the long run.

This book delves deep into the dark heart of the profit-boosting strategies that efficiency consulting firm McKinsey & Company cooked up with Allstate and the dramatic negative impact they have had on policyholders…. They created a plan for Allstate’s claims operations known as the Claims Core Process Redesign or simply CCPR…To date, CCPR has generated between $15 to $25 billion in excess profits for Allstate’s stockholders. It has also generated a national firestorm of bad faith litigation. This estimate is based on Allstate’s annual statements showing an increase in surplus from $4.5 billion in 1992 before CCPR to a staggering $21.8 billion in 2004 with an additional $14 billion distributed in that time as shareholder dividends. Allstate has consistently refused to state how much extra profit CCPR generated. However, in 2004 Allstate claims its net income rose to a record $3.1 billion, despite 4 hurricanes in the Southeastern United States. –United Policy Holders
